World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka had a straightforward path to the Roland Garros second round, defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2 on Tuesday.

But perhaps the even bigger challenge was staying cool in Paris as a heat wave continues to roast the city—and not getting weighed down by her jewelry, which featured more than 200 carats of precious stones, including 23 carats of diamonds.

“I don't like to take it easy, you know. I like to challenge myself!” Sabalenka laughed when asked about her on-court look.

Sabalenka teased a preview of the Nike fit on social media: a layered look featuring breathable black mesh over a red performance dress, with pops of red along the neckline and on her nails.

“The dress is super light, like, I don't feel the dress on me,” she explained. “I was thinking it's going to be super hot wearing black, but it doesn't feel like black color on me, so I feel really comfortable.”

The pièce de résistance of Sabalenka’s Roland Garros look was her eye-catching jewelry, created by sponsor Material Good.

Sabalenka wore a stack of three necklaces and an earring set made from “over 200 carats of garnets and 23 carats of diamonds,” inspired by the red clay courts—although she only wore two of the necklaces on court on Tuesday.

“I don't really feel the heaviness of it, but I can imagine how it looks from the outside,” Sabalenka said. “I feel pretty comfortable.

“For me, it's important to look good. If I feel good looking-wise, I perform better and I feel great.”

Last year’s finalist is putting that philosophy to the test in Paris, shrugging off the pressure after lackluster results leading into the clay-court Slam. Sabalenka reached the quarterfinals in Madrid, where she lost to Hailey Baptiste, and suffered a third-round exit in Rome at the hands of Sorana Cirstea. She now also faces growing pressure on her world No. 1 ranking.

Sabalenka said she’s leaning on her team for support — and sometimes even personal security — as she travels with piles of fine jewelry.

“I have my fiance! He's like kind of like my security,” she laughed. “I have my team. I have Jason and my physio who does Jujitsu, so I feel pretty secure walking around.”

The top seed will face French player Elsa Jacquemot in the second round.
