Carlos Alcaraz out for rest of clay-court season with wrist injury, vows “to come out of it stronger”

Carlos Alcaraz will miss the rest of the clay-court season to heal the right-wrist injury that initially forced him to cut his Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell bid short last week.

The misfortune means the world No. 2 will be denied his shot at completing a three-peat at Roland Garros, after winning consecutive five-set finals in Paris. He was also the reigning Internazionali BNL d'Italia champion, defeating Jannik Sinner in both 2025 blockbuster finals.

Alcaraz had withdrawn from his home tournament in Madrid for a further evaluation before making the decision.

“After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros as we wait to evaluate the progress so we can decide when to return to the court,” Alcaraz wrote on social media. “This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure we will come out of it stronger.”

The Spaniard began the year on a 16-match win streak, becoming the youngest man in history to complete a Career Grand Slam following his Australian Open triumph. With Alcaraz withdrawing from the French Open, it only strengthens Sinner’s chances of finishing his own Career Slam.
