World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has stormed into the semifinals of Tokyo, defeating American Brandon Nakashima in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 event on Sunday night, 6-2, 6-4.

And it was a milestone win for Alcaraz—his 65th of the year.

No one else on the men's tour is even at 50 wins yet for the season.

MOST WINS IN 2025 (men, tour-level):

  • 65: Carlos Alcaraz [65-7]
  • 48: Taylor Fritz [48-17]
  • 47: Alexander Zverev [47-19]
  • 46: Alex de Minaur [46-17]

And there's more: Alcaraz is now the only man to win 65 or more matches in two different seasons this decade, having also recorded 65 wins in 2023.

The only other men to win 65 or more matches in a season this decade are Daniil Medvedev (66 in 2023), Sinner (73 in 2024) and Zverev (69 in 2024).

HIGHLIGHTS: Carlos Alcaraz eases past Brandon Nakashima | Tokyo QF

Alcaraz's game was in full flight from the start, as he ripped three winners—one off the forehand, one off the backhand and a volley—to break the Nakashima serve in the very first game of the match. He then completed his set of winners with an ace on the first point of the second game.

The dazzling display went on the entire match, too, as he finished with 39 winners in 80 minutes, which averages out to about one every two minutes—and with 18 total games in the match, that's more than two per game.

Nakashima's numbers were solid—10 winners, 11 unforced errors—but Alcaraz had more than double the winners to unforced errors, 39 to 18.

He never faced a single break point in nine service games.

"It's great to go through, to play another semifinal," Alcaraz said. "It's special because this is the first time I'm playing here in Japan, here in Tokyo, so reaching the semifinals in my first appearance is something great."

Awaiting the No. 1-seeded Alcaraz in the semifinals in the Japanese capital will be No. 4-seeded Casper Ruud, who also cruised through his quarterfinal match, beating Australian qualifier Aleksandar Vukic, 6-3, 6-2.

Alcaraz leads Ruud in their head-to-head, 4-1, but Ruud's one win actually came in their last meeting, a 6-1, 7-5 victory in the round-robin stage of the ATP Finals last year. Alcaraz leads 3-0 on outdoor hard courts, though.

This will be the pair's first meeting of this year.
