Carlos Alcaraz avenged a shock 2024 US Open defeat in Rotterdam on Tuesday, shaking off a second-set dip to defeat Botic van de Zandschulp, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-1 at the ABN AMRO Open.
Playing his first match since losing in the Australian Open quarterfinals to Novak Djokovic, the former world No.1 navigated a three-set victory to reach the second round in two hours and 32 minutes.
Alcaraz last played van de Zandschulp in Flushing Meadows in August, with the 2022 champion incurring a shocking second-round loss to the Dutchman in straight sets.
