Casper Ruud is back in the Top 10 after reaching back-to-back finals in Los Cabos and Acapulco

After a packed week that featured three ATP events and two WTA events, there were bound to be a few notable moves on the rankings today—and there are definitely more than just a few.

While the WTA Top 10 remains the same as last week, there’s one big change in the ATP Top 10, as former world No. 2 Casper Ruud breaks back into the elite after a fantastic two weeks in Mexico.

Last week he rose from No. 12 to No. 11 after reaching the final of the ATP 250 in Los Cabos, and this week he moves up from No. 11 to No. 9 after his second final in as many weeks at the ATP 500 in Acapulco—which was also the milestone 20th ATP final of his career.

The two weeks of Indian Wells will be Ruud’s 114th and 115th career weeks in the Top 10, his first 113 all coming consecutively between September 13th, 2021 and November 12th, 2023. It was on November 13th of last year that he dropped out of the elite after his points from reaching the final of the ATP Finals the year before fell off.

Now he’s back inside, with little to defend until the clay season.

Just a few spots down from Ruud, Ugo Humbert continues his ascent towards the top of the sport, rising from No. 18 to No. 14—his Top 15 debut—after winning the ATP 500 title in Dubai, where he not only recorded back-to-back Top 10 wins against Hubert Hurkacz and Daniil Medvedev in the quarters and semis, but eventually extended his perfect career record in ATP finals to 6-0, too.

Humbert is the first Frenchman to be ranked in the Top 15 since the two weeks of Roland Garros in 2021, when Gael Monfils was No. 15.

And there’s more—for the first time in his career, Humbert is the No. 1 lefty on the ATP rankings, jumping past Ben Shelton this week.

There are two new faces in the ATP Top 20 today, too—first up is Sebastian Baez, who cracks the elite after a phenomenal two weeks on clay in South America. Last week he jumped from No. 30 to No. 21 after winning his first ATP 500 title in Rio de Janeiro, and this week he moves up from No. 21 to No. 19 after winning the ATP 250 in Santiago.

The 5’ 7” Argentine was one of only six players to win three or more ATP titles in 2023, and he’s one of just three players to win multiple ATP titles in 2024 already, alongside Humbert and Jannik Sinner.

He’s also the first player to win two ATP titles in as many weeks in almost exactly a year, since Medvedev won Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai in three straight weeks last February and March.

Alexander Bublik also cracks the Top 20 this week, rising from No. 23 to No. 20 after reaching the 11th ATP final of his career in Dubai.

And it's historic: Bublik is the first player representing Kazakhstan to break into the Top 20 since ATP rankings began in 1973.

There are more notable moves on the ATP rankings this week: Jack Draper rises from No. 50 to No. 37, surpassing his previous high of No. 38 from January 2023, after reaching his first ATP 500 semifinal in Acapulco, and after the Brit had fallen as low as No. 123 last summer following a shoulder injury lay-off; and Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo jumps from No. 51 to No. 39, soaring past his previous high of No. 49, after reaching his second ATP final of the year in Santiago.

And over on the WTA rankings, the winners of last week’s two WTA events both make big jumps, with Great Britain’s Katie Boulter rising from No. 49 to No. 27—shattering her previous career-high of No. 48—after winning her first WTA 500 title in San Diego, and China’s Yuan Yue climbing from No. 68 to No. 49, her Top 50 debut, after capturing her first WTA title at the WTA 250 in Austin.
