It's been an impressive run for the United States at Roland Garros on the men's side, but the American women will try to upstage them on Monday.

Coco Gauff got them off to a great start with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over No. 20 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Gauff returned serve impeccably and made the most of her break point chances, converting five of nine. She was broken just once despite landing only 59 percent of her first serves in play.

The two each struck 14 winners, but Gauff was far cleaner with unforced errors, making just 16 to Alexandrova's 33.

"I thought I played well, she's a tough opponent," Gauff told Sloane Stephens after the match on TNT. "In the second set she started blasting some winners; felt like I wasn't playing that bad, but that's her game."

Just 21, Gauff has now reached the quarterfinal round at the Paris major for the fifth consecutive year. She was a finalist in 2022 (losing to Iga Swiatek) and a semifinalist last season (again losing to Swiatek).

She'll be favored to win her quarterfinal no matter who advances—and no matter who advances, it will be an American opponent. Australian Open champion Madison Keys takes on Hailey Baptiste, playing in her first fourth round at a Grand Slam.

"I know them both very well," said Gauff. "I think I've only played Hailey once, a few years ago at D.C. (Gauff won 6-1, 6-4 in the round of 16, in 2023). It's great to see her doing well at these Slams and big tournaments.

"Obviously Madi has been playing some great tennis, coming off a Grand Slam win. It's going to be a tough match either way." (Editor's Note: Keys prevailed over Baptiste, 6-3, 7-5.)

That will ensure two Americans in the last eight in the women's draw, and No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula is expected to make it three, with 361st-ranked Frenchwoman Lois Boisson on the other side of the net. (Editor's Note: In a major upset, Boisson defeated Pegula, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.)

Unlike Pegula, Keys and Gauff has not dropped a set at Roland Garros.
