Corentin Moutet seeks new heights after "complicated" season of climbs and controversy

French player Corentin Moutet's season finished with some high and low notes, but he's looking at it as a big learning experience.

The 23-year-old is at a career-high No. 51, having had runs to the fourth round of the US Open and third round of the Paris Masters. But he has also been combustible on court, including a shoving contest following his first-round defeat at the ATP challenger in Orleans.

That led France's FFT to stop funding his collaboration with coach Laurent Raymond, and he is now being coached by Petar Popovic. Though Moutet said he had not wanted to change teams, he goes into next season still as motivated.

"Nothing changes my passion, or the way I work," he was quoted by Punto de Break as saying during an ASICS event. "I am happy to start working with him, he is a great coach and I am sure we will do good work together."

The Serbian coach told Tennis Legendes that they have had a good off-season training session in Marbella, Spain.

"I explained to Corentin that he had to be 100 percent, of course he said yes," said Popovic. "I don't tolerate a player not being fully involved."

Moutet's goal for next season is to get his ranking up again, allowing him to be seeded at Grand Slams. Though he would have liked to avoid the controversies, he says it's part of improving on court.

"As in my entire career, I always learn from them, they make me a better tennis player and a better person," he said. "It has been one of the most difficult seasons.

"Injuries, big doubts about the right way of working, which is a good challenge. Finally, I have my best ranking in one of the most complicated seasons I've had."

Moutet had a season low of No. 139 in the rankings.
