Down 15-30, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro had history on her racquet. The 22-year-old Spaniard was up big—so much that she was attempting to become the first woman to defeat a Top 10 player 6-0, 6-0 at a Grand Slam since Martina Navratilova obliterated world No. 7 Manuela Maleeva in the 1989 US Opqn quarterfinals.

There were two notable differences today at Roland Garros: first, this was a first-round match, not a quarterfinal where Top 10 players can collide. Second, Bouzas Maneiro is ranked 68th, not second as the legendary Navratilova was.

Navratilova's distinction remains safe, as Navarro got on the board with a Bouzas Maneiro double fault. The American raised her arm to the sky in a wry celebration.

'Everything's possible': Jessica Bouzas Maneiro stuns Emma Navarro 6-0, 6-1 at Roland Garros

Just one game later, though, and the Bouzas Maneiro demolition on dirt was complete. Navarro's stats were ghastly: she won just 44% of her first-serve points and 22% on second serve. She broken seven times, struck 23 unforced errors and hit just four winners.

Bouzas Maneiro won 56 of the 86 total points played in a ladies' sweep, if you will.

"That is a devastating loss," said Mark Petchey on truTV. "I feel like there's an explanation coming."

The two had never played before and perhaps Navarro never hopes they do again.
