LOOK BACK: Raducanu's 20-set sweep in Queens

The coaching carousel is in full spin these days, with Emma Raducanu and Christian Garin the newest to announce changes to their team.

Raducanu's decision to stop working with her coach Andrew Richardson comes just two weeks since the 18-year-old's surprise triumph at the US Open, when she became the first qualifier to win a Slam.

Richardson had coached Raducanu between the ages of 11 and 13, and come on board again on a trial basis following Wimbledon. She has decided not to extend the collaboration.

"I was ranked around 200 in the world," she told British press. "And, at the time I thought Andrew would be a great coach to try and I went to the States. Never did I even dream of winning the US Open and having the run I did, and now I’m ranked 22 in the world which is pretty crazy to me.

"It’s tough to have that conversation with anyone, but I need someone who’s had that professional tour experience.

"I just really need someone right now who has been through that and can really guide me along the way because I’m still very very new to everything."

It's expected that Raducanu's first event since her US Open title run will be Indian Wells.

Raducanu had previously been working with veteran WTA coach Nigel Sears, whose players have included former No.1 Ana Ivanovic, but they split following her run to the fourth round of Wimbledon.

"Nigel was extremely good especially at the top of the game and I think that's where he probably brings the most value," she said then, speaking to BBC. "But I think at this stage of my development a fresh voice, and fresh eyes are sometimes good."

Prior to that, she worked with Philippe Dehaes, who has also guided WTA players like Daria Kasatkina, until their training was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Raducanu has also received coaching by several LTA coaches during her juniors development.

There was Simona Halep's announcement this week that coach Darren Cahill, who helped her capture two Grand Slam titles, will be stepping away from her team.

No.17-ranked Christian Garin also is no longer working with Franco Davin.

The 25-year-old Chilean had added the veteran Argentine coach, who has previously trained top players such as Juan Martin del Potro and Fabio Fognini, to his team during the 2020 offseason. The split followed his singles defeat in Davis Cup a few days ago.

"It is the moment to focus on the personal, to keep big goals and above all recover the level I reached during the first half," he said on social media.

Garin got off to a good start during the season, reaching the fourth round of both the French Open and Wimbledon, but has not won back-to-back matches since then despite playing a full schedule.

None of the players have announced new coaches.
