Emma Raducanu will be sidelined for 'a few months' as a result of what she called 'minor' surgical procedures on her ankle and hands.

The 2021 US Open champion announced the news on her social media channels on Wednesday, accompanying a photo of her in a hospital bed. Raducanu said that the hand issues have troubled her since the end of last season, and "while [she's] at it," she'll also rectify a lingering ankle problem.

"It is safe to say the last 10 months have been difficult as I dealt with a recurring injury on a bone of both hands," she wrote.

"I tried my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and end of last year by reducing practice load dramatically, missing weeks of training, as well as cutting last season short to try [healing] it. Unfortunately it’s not enough.

"I’m having a minor procedure done on both hands to resolve the issues. I’m disappointed to share that I will be out for the next few months and while I am at it, will have another minor procedure that is due on my ankle."

While Raducanu provided no timeline for a comeback in her post, the BBC later reported that she'll miss both Roland Garros and Wimbledon as she recovers.

The Brit, ranked No. 85 this week but projected to drop out of the Top 100 in the new rankings on Monday, has been troubled by a myriad of physical problems in 2023. She was forced out of Madrid this week as a consequence of her hand issues, but also suffered an ankle injury at the ASB Classic in January; missed the ATX Open in Austin in February while recovering from tonsillitis; and saw a wrist injury cloud her Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami.

Raducanu did reach the fourth round at the BNP Paribas Open, and has a 5-5 record so far this year.

"It pains me that I will miss the summer events and I tried to downplay the issues, so I thank all my fans who continued to support me when you did not know the facts," she added. "Looking forward to seeing you all back out there."
