Felix Auger-Aliassime made a winning start to his Miami Open campaign on Saturday afternoon, battling past Marton Fucsovics in two close sets at the Masters 1000 event, 7-6 (3), 7-5.

And it was a special one: the 200th hard-court win of his career.

The 25-year-old Canadian, who’s now 200-115 on the surface, is just the second man born in the 2000s to reach that milestone, after Jannik Sinner, who’s 241-54 on it after his opening win in Miami today.

MOST HARD-COURT WINS, MEN BORN IN 2000s (tour-level, 100+):

  • 241: Jannik Sinner [born in 2001]
  • 200: Felix Auger-Aliassime [born in 2000]
  • 159: Carlos Alcaraz [born in 2003]
  • 114: Sebastian Korda [born in 2000]
  • 108: Holger Rune [born in 2003]
  • 102: Brandon Nakashima [born in 2001] (playing today)

Hard courts have been Auger-Aliassime's best surface throughout his career—he's won all nine of his career ATP titles on it, including his most recent one in Montpellier earlier this year. He's also reached eight of his other 13 career ATP finals on this surface, plus both of his Grand Slam semifinals, at the US Open in 2021 and 2025.

Félix Auger-Aliassime edges past Fucsovics | Miami Highlights

Fucsovics had been a tough match-up for Auger-Aliassime in the past, winning two of their five previous meetings, with four of those five meetings going to three sets. And this one was close, too.

After trading breaks in the seventh and eighth games of the match, the two went to a tie-break to decide the first set, where—after Fucsovics went up 1-0—Auger-Aliassime rattled off five points in a row to head into the changeover with a commanding 5-1 lead, eventually tucking the 65-minute set away a few points later.

The breaks started flowing in the second set. Fucsovics broke in the opening game to go up 1-0, before getting broken right back for 1-all—then, Auger-Aliassime broke for a 4-2 lead when Fucsovics broke right back for 4-3. The two then traded holds for the next few games.

Auger-Aliassime struck back when it mattered most, though, getting the last break of the match in the very last game of the match, clinching the two-hour, 10-minute victory with an inside-out forehand passing shot as Fucsovics rushed the net on match point.

In the end, the break points were key—Fucsovics converted one third of his, 3/9, while Auger-Aliassime converted two thirds, 4/6.

Awaiting the No. 7-seeded Auger-Aliassime in the third round in Miami will be unseeded Frenchman Terence Atmane, a 7-6 (4), 6-3 winner over No. 26-seeded Arthur Rinderknech earlier in the day.

Auger-Aliassime and Atmane have never faced each other before.
