Holger Rune is doing everything he can to expedite a return to professional tennis after suffering a devastating Achilles injury last month.

Even if it means practicing on one leg.

The 22-year-old Dane has been working hard in the five weeks since he fully ruptured his left proximal Achilles tendon when facing France's Ugo Humbert in the semifinals of the BNP Paribas Nordic Open in October.

This week, he had fans on social media cheering as he was back on the practice court at his Monte Carlo base, taking tenacious swipes at forehands while hopping for the ball in a boot.

Rune has been chronicling the early days of his rehabilitation on social media, previously posting videos of his time on court (seated) and in the gym.

"[The] spirit is high and enjoying having my team around me," he said Sunday, showcasing a montage of him doing fitness work and trunk twists with a medicine ball.

The Dane expects to be in a walking boot for at least six weeks, and likely will miss a good portion of the 2026 tennis season. A day after suffering the injury in Stockholm, he told fans he'll be out "a while" in another social media post.

Rune gave his first interview since the injury to the Hard Court Substack last week, where he said that the first major physical setback of his career has given him a newfound perspective.

"I was sometimes too easy on things, and now I feel the longing," the former world No. 4 said, confessing to previously "[taking] my talent for granted."

"I think I also needed that phase in my life. To mature at my own pace."

"[The injury] for sure cost something with my ranking and [in terms of] trophies, but maybe it was necessary for me," he continued. "We can’t undo what’s done, and now with the injury, maybe this is the slap in the face I needed to make me take my talent seriously and show myself what I am actually capable of doing. I honestly can’t wait to take myself to another level."
