Iga Swiatek made a winning start to her Wuhan Open campaign on Tuesday night, cruising past Marie Bouzkova in her opening match at the WTA 1000 event, 6-1, 6-1.

And with that win, she achieved a big first.

Swiatek is now the first woman to win 60 or more matches in four consecutive seasons this century, having recorded 67 wins in 2022, 68 wins in 2023 and 64 wins in 2024.

The last two women to achieve that feat—Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport—did it across the last two centuries, the Swiss doing it five years in a row from 1997 to 2001 and the American four years in a row from 1998 to 2001.

And there's more.

Swiatek is also the only player, female or male, to record 60 or more wins in each of the last four years, from 2022 to 2025. And no one else can join her in that stat, as nobody on either tour crossed that threshold in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

60-WIN SEASONS SINCE 2022 (men and women, tour-level):

  • 2022: Iga Swiatek (67), Stefanos Tsitsipas (61), Felix Auger-Aliassime (60)
  • 2023: Iga Swiatek (68), Daniil Medvedev (66), Carlos Alcaraz (65), Jannik Sinner (64)
  • 2024: Jannik Sinner (73), Alexander Zverev (69), Iga Swiatek (64)
  • 2025: Carlos Alcaraz (67), Iga Swiatek (60)

Playing her first career match in Wuhan, Swiatek was in control against Bouzkova from start to finish on Tuesday night, needing just an hour and 19 minutes to win in straight sets.

And Swiatek won her games in fours—first, she jumped out to a 4-0 lead, then Bouzkova got one of the breaks back to make it 4-1. Then she won another four games in a row to go up 6-1, 2-0, and Bouzkova held to make it 6-1, 2-1. The Pole then reeled off another four games in a row to cross the finish line.

She was asked afterwards about her tournament debut.

"It's nice to play in a city I've never been to," she said. "It's something new, and I really appreciate that because of the repetition of the tour—I'm really happy to be in Wuhan and get to know the city. I'm happy with the performance as well."

And it was a very strong performance, stats-wise—Swiatek finished the match with 35 winners to 23 unforced errors, and even won eight of the nine points she played at net.

Bouzkova kept her stats clean with three winners to seven unforced errors, but Swiatek was just too powerful on the day.

Swiatek will now get a day off and await the winner of Wednesday's second-round match between the No. 13 seed, Belinda Bencic, and an unseeded Elise Mertens.

Either way, it'll be a favorable match-up for the six-time major champion—she's 4-1 against Bencic and 2-0 against Mertens.
