Jo-Wilfried Tsonga continued his run at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech on Friday. He eliminated Lorenzo Sonego, 6-3, 6-2, to inch closer to his second title of the year.

After winning only five matches in 2018 due a left knee injury that needed surgery, the 2019 season has been kind to Tsonga so far as he continues striving to regain the elite status that saw him reach the No. 5 ranking in 2012.

The 33-year-old Frenchman reached the Australian Open final in 2008, back-to-back Wimbledon semifinals in 2011 and 2012, and the French Open semifinals in 2013 and 2015. He also made the last eight of the US Open three times.

Tsonga will face fellow Frenchman Benoit Paire, who reached his first semifinal of the year with a win over Jaume Munar. Munar had upset top-seeded Alexander Zverev in the round of 16 on Thursday. In the other semifinal, yet another Frenchman Giles Simon will face Pablo Andujar.
