Nick Kyrgios is still aiming to play the Australian Open following yesterday's announcement that he had tested positive for coronavirus, while other players who tested positive before or upon arrival in Australia have begun returning to court.

The 26-year-old Australian described his symptoms on social media.

"I actually don’t feel too bad at the moment and I’m taking all necessary precautions," Kyrgios said, adding that it was ''obviously not ideal" a week away from the Australian Open but he was "going to do everything in my power" to play his home Grand Slam.

But one player who won't be competing Down Under is Jenson Brooksby, whose positive came before he left for Australia, but his withdrawal does allow Kamil Majchrzak into the draw -- he had been scheduled to contest the qualifies but could not when he also tested positive for coronavirus during ATP Cup.

And Bernard Tomic's Australian Open campaign is also done following a first-round exit in qualifying to Russia's Roman Safiullin, but on top of that, he suggested he was likely to join the ranks of players with coronavirus.

"I will buy you dinner if I don’t test positive in three days," Tomic complained to the umpire in a lengthy on-court conversation. "They are allowing players to come onto the court with rapid tests in their room. No official PCR testing."

He then said more on social media following the encounter.

"Feeling really sick, I’m now back in my hotel room," Tomic announced, adding that he had been asked to go into isolation.

Other players have also noted the lack of testing.

But players who had previously tested positive are now also returning to the courts, with Belinda Bencic winning her first round in Sydney and Emma Raducanu playing her first match of the season. Ons Jabeur, who like the other two had tested positive following the Abu Dhabi exhibition, also won at Sydney yesterday.

Maria Camila Osorio Serrano, who tested positive in Australia, also returned to the practice courts in Melbourne.

More than a dozen players have tested positive coming into the Australian Open.
