Lorenzo Musetti rises to new career-high of No. 5 on ATP rankings

Italy's Lorenzo Musetti has broken into the Top 5 on the ATP rankings, rising two spots from No. 7 to No. 5 today after his run to the final in Hong Kong last week.

His new career-high ranking follows a phenomenal run over the last 10 months, highlighted by four finals (Monte Carlo, Chengdu, Athens and Hong Kong) and another four semifinals (Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros and Vienna).

He’s just the third Italian to reach the Top 5 in ATP rankings history, after Adriano Panatta and Jannik Sinner, and the sixth Italian to reach the Top 5 in either ATP or WTA rankings history, which began in 1973 and 1975.

And there’s more—the 23-year-old Musetti is just the fourth man born in 2002 or later to reach the Top 5.

He's also the first man with a one-handed backhand to be ranked in the Top 5 in more than two years, since Stefanos Tsitsipas spent his most recent week in the elite from September 25th to October 1st, 2023.

And the man who beat Musetti for the Hong Kong title over the weekend, Alexander Bublik, makes a ranking breakthrough of his own today, rising from No. 11 to No. 10 for his Top 10 debut. He’s the first man representing Kazakhstan to reach the Top 10 in ATP rankings history.

Meanwhile, Hubert Hurkacz rises from No. 83 to No. 53 after leading Team Poland to their first United Cup title. The former No. 6 was playing his first tournament in seven months, having been out of action with a knee injury.

Last but certainly not least, Alexander Blockx makes his Top 100 debut, rising from No. 115 to No. 95 after winning a Challenger title in Canberra, Australia. The 20-year-old Belgian rising star made a splash at the end of last year, reaching the final of the Next Gen ATP Finals.
