Mirra Andreeva continued her excellent clay-court season in Rome on Saturday, defeating Swiss one-hander Viktorija Golubic in three sets the third round of the WTA 1000 event, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.

She’s now 14-2 on clay this year, an impressive run that has taken her to the title in Linz, the semifinals in Stuttgart, the final in Madrid last week and now the fourth round (so far) in Rome.

But that’s not all.

Andreeva’s latest victory in the Italian capital was also the milestone 50th WTA 1000 win of her career, an incredible feat given she only just turned 19 years old 10 days ago.

She’s now a win away from her 10th WTA 1000 quarterfinal.

Standing between the No. 8-seeded Andreeva and that aforementioned 10th WTA 1000 quarterfinal will be No. 21-seeded Elise Mertens, who fought off three match points down 6-5 in the second set to take out No. 9 seed and defending champion Jasmine Paolini earlier in the day, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3.

Paolini will now dip out of the Top 10 for the first time in almost two years, since she first broke into the elite after reaching the first Grand Slam final of her career at Roland Garros in 2024.

Andreeva and Mertens will be playing each other for the first time.
