Nick Kyrgios accepts BOSS Open wild card after teasing grass-court comeback

Nick Kyrgios confirmed plans to return to action by accepting a wild card to the BOSS Open in Stuttgart.

“The Weissenhof is a fantastic venue with excellent grass courts,” Kyrgios said in a press release. “I’ve always enjoyed my time there—the fans and atmosphere are very special. I’m really looking forward to coming back.”

The 2022 Wimbledon finalist has played just one singles match thus far in 2026—a first-round loss at the Brisbane International—and has played just seven total singles matches since 2023 due to knee and wrist injuries, both of which have required surgery.

He competed at the Australian Open in men’s and mixed doubles, winning a round with partner Leylah Fernandez in the latter.

Kyrgios has initially suggested that 2026 could be his final season as a professional tennis player, but promised a return to the 2027 Australian Open and later surprised fans on social media this week when he revealed his intention to compete “the grass & UTS events” on social media.

Germany’s Justin Engel also received a wild card to Stuttgart, and the two will join a field that is poised to include the likes of defending champion Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, and Matteo Berrettini.
