"Confused" Iga Swiatek suffers first opening loss since 2021 WTA Finals with Miami defeat to Magda Linette

With his run to the title at the US Open this year, Novak Djokovic continued to add on to his already historic resume of career stats—here are 24 of them for his 24th career Grand Slam title:

He now has the most Grand Slam titles for any player, man or woman, in the Open Era. He surpasses Serena Williams' 23.

He’s now tied for the most Grand Slam titles for any player, man or woman, in tennis history. Margaret Court also won 24, split between pre-Open Era (13) and Open Era (11).

He actually tied Court’s record on the 50th anniversary of her record. She won her 24th and last major at the 1973 US Open.

He’s now won 24 of the 72 Grand Slams he’s ever played. That’s exactly a third.

He’s also reached the final at 36 of the 72 Grand Slams he’s ever played. That’s exactly half.

At 36, he’s the oldest player to win the US Open in the Open Era, male or female. Ken Rosewall held the men’s record (35 in 1970) and Flavia Pennetta has the women’s record (33 in 2015).

He’s now back at No. 1. He’s spending his record-extending 390th career week at No.1 on the ATP rankings this week, now 80 weeks up on the next man on the list, Roger Federer at 310.

He’s also No. 1 in the year-to-date race now. He was previously 510 points behind Carlos Alcaraz (7,455 to 6,945) but he’s now 770 points ahead (8,945 to 8,175).

Djokovic defeated Medvedev in the final in Flushing Meadows this year, 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3.

He’s the first man in tennis histoty to win three majors in a year in four different years—2011, 2015, 2021 and 2023. Federer’s the only other man to do it in three different years.

He’s now won 16 of his last 20 Grand Slam finals. He was once 8-8 in Grand Slam finals, but since midway through the 2015 season he’s gone 16-4 to improve to 24-12 in his career.

He’s also won 22 of his last 23 Grand Slam semifinals. His only loss in a major semifinal since the start of 2015 came to Dominic Thiem at 2019 Roland Garros, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5.

He actually passed Federer for most major semifinals for a man in history, too. He now holds the all-time men’s records for most major titles (24), finals (36) and semifinals (47).

He’s now won 12 majors since turning 30, more than any other player in the Open Era, male or female. Serena’s the only other player in double digits after turning 30, with 10.

He now has 14 career hard-court majors, the most of any player in history. He's won 10 Australian Opens and four US Opens. He passes Serena, who has seven and six, respectively.

It was his fifth tour-level title of the year. He’s now won five or more tour-level titles a year in 12 different years, the first man in the Open Era to do that, surpassing Jimmy Connors’ 11.

It was also the 96th tour-level title of his career. He’s still in third place among men in the Open Era, but at this rate, Connors’ 109 and Federer’s 103 don’t seem so far away…

Djokovic is spending his 390th career week at No. 1 this week, which is exactly seven and a half years' worth of weeks at the top spot.

He’s actually won 23 of the last 48 majors he’s played. It’s 24 of 72 overall, but from the start of 2011 it’s 23 of 48—almost half.

He’s won 65 of his last 68 matches at majors. Since the start of 2021, his only three losses have come against Daniil Medvedev (2021 US Open final), Rafael Nadal (2022 Roland Garros quarterfinals) and Alcaraz (2023 Wimbledon final).

He’s won 17 of his last 18 tie-breaks at majors. Since the third round of this year’s Australian Open he’s only lost one—to Alcaraz in the second set of the Wimbledon final.

The US Open is the 12th tour-level event that he’s won four or more times. The two events he's won the most are, incredibly, Grand Slams—10 Australian Opens and seven Wimbledons.

He became the first player to reach 250 career Top 10 wins in ATP rankings history. His quarterfinal victory over Taylor Fritz was his 250th—beating Medvedev in the final was his 251st.

With his $3,000,000 cheque for winning the title, he surpassed $10 million in a season for the ninth time in his career—2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2023. The players with the next-most $10 million seasons in ATP or WTA history: Nadal (four), Federer (two) and Serena (two).

He’s now won 10.8% of the Grand Slams played in the Open Era. That's a lot considering he wasn't even born until about 34% into the Open Era.

He now has a 3,260-point cushion at No. 1. With 11,795 points to Alcaraz’s 8,535 right now, Djokovic seems to be on cruise control heading towards 400 career weeks at No. 1…
