Novak Djokovic confirmed on social media Tuesday that he had parted ways with rival-turned-coach Andy Murray, ending a six-month partnership that saw the 24-time Grand Slam champion reach the Australian Open semifinals and Miami Open finals.

“Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun & support over last six months on & off the court,” Djokovic wrote. “Really enjoyed deepening our friendship together 🙏”

Two former world No. 1s, Djokovic and Murray shocked the tennis world over the 2024 off-season when they first announced that they would be teaming up as coach and pupil, the move coming six months after Murray officially announced his retirement from professional tennis.

“When somebody like Djokovic asks you, you say yes,” 18-time major champion Martina Navratilova said of the move on Tennis Channel Live in January. “But still, I’m surprised that emotionally, he felt ready to get back into the cauldron again.”

Djokovic has struggled with injuries throughout the partnership, retiring from the Australian Open semifinals and sitting out this week’s Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The 37-year-old confirmed he would return to action in Geneva for a final Roland Garros warm-up, but it will be the first tournament without Murray at his side.
