Coco Gauff and Caty McNally upset the top-seeded duo of Elise Mertens and Hsieh Su-Wei on Wednesday 6-3, 7-6 (1). It’s their first major semifinal appearance, having reached the quarterfinals of the 2020 and 2021 Australian Open.

The combined skill-sets between McNally and Gauff create an utterly fantastic squad. McNally is a natural doubles player who excels at net due to her exceptional feel and quick hands, while Gauff is a huge-serving speed demon, capable of retrieving shots most players wouldn’t even attempt to reach. McNally is certainly the better volleyer of the two, but Gauff is no slouch at net, especially with her massive wingspan.

Here’s to hoping that the Gauff/McNally duo continue to play doubles together in the future, because the sky is the limit for this young team.
