Last week's three ATP events may have only been ATP 250s, but they've definitely had an effect on the Race to the ATP Finals, as the three players who won them—Felix Auger-Aliassime, Casper Ruud and Daniil Medvedev—are effectively the first three players outside the Top 8 at the moment, and those points could make all the difference down the road.

Just five spots remain at this year's ATP Finals in Turin, with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner qualifying in the summer and Novak Djokovic punching his ticket over the weekend, and things are going to heat up this week with two ATP 500 events taking place in Basel and Vienna.

How have the Race to the ATP Finals standings changed this week?

With the entire Top 7 on the standings not playing last week, and No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti falling in the quarterfinals in Brussels, there was an opportunity for the rest of the field to make up ground—and they did.

With Jack Draper ending his season after the US Open due to an arm injury and Holger Rune's season presumably over after a devastating Achilles injury, Auger-Aliassime, Ruud and Medvedev are the next three contenders after the Top 8, and they all just won titles—the Canadian in Brussels, the Norwegian in Stockholm and the Russian in Almaty.

A week ago, Auger-Aliassime was 530 points behind Musetti (3,435 to 2,905), but he's cut that gap to 340 points now (3,485 to 3,145). Meanwhile, Ruud added 240 points to his total (2,495 to 2,735) and Medvedev added 200 points to his total (2,360 to 2,560).

RACE TO THE ATP FINALS, TOP 15 (as of October 20th, players qualified in bold):

  • No. 1: Carlos Alcaraz—11,040 points

Who's playing in Basel and Vienna?

With up to 500 points up for grabs at two tournaments, 11 of the Top 15 players on the race standings are in action this week, with the only four missing being two of the three who have already qualified (Alcaraz and Djokovic) and the two aforementioned injured players (Draper and Rune).

In Basel, Fritz and Shelton will try to solidify their spots in the Top 8, while Auger-Aliassime and Ruud try to continue their push to catch that group.

In Vienna, Sinner—the only Turin qualifier playing this week—will try to build momentum towards his title defense there, while Zverev, De Minaur, Musetti, Medvedev, Rublev and Bublik are all also in action.
