UPDATE: Giorgi posted a statement to her official Instagram account in both English and Italian.

"Please trust this instagram for truthful information," she writes before addresses her "lovely fans."

"I am happy to formally announce retirement from my tennis career. I am so grateful for your wonderful love and support for so many years. I cherish all the beautiful memories. There have been many inaccurate rumors about my future plans, so I look forward to providing more information about exciting opportunities ahead. It is a joy to share my life with you, and let's continue this journey together. With much love, Camila."

Camila Giorgi may have retired from tennis due to tax problems, an article written by La Gazzetta dello Sporto reports.

A former world No. 26, Giorgi surprised the tennis world without making an announcement or releasing a statement. Giorgi has not competed at a Hologic WTA tournament since March at the Miami Open, where she lost to Iga Swiatek. No one has reportedly been able to get in contact with Giorgi since the retirement was filed on May 7.

Now a report surfaced that alleges that Giorgi and her family are being pursued by the Guardia di Finanza, an Italian law enforcement agency that means to inform her of issues having to do with her taxes and undeclared income.

Giorgi was already scheduled to attend a hearing in Vicenza regarding an allegation of forging her COVID-19 vaccine documentation, an allegation Giorgi denied when it was first made public during the 2023 Australian Open.

“I just did all my vaccination in different places,” said Giorgi, who allegedly received one of the COVID-19 vaccine doses from disgraced Dr. Daniela Grillone, who was arrested for falsifying vaccine certificates. “So, the trouble is hers. Not me. So, with that, I'm very calm. Of course, if not, I couldn't come here and play this tennis, I think.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sporto, Giorgi and her family are believed to have relocated to the United States.
