A Hopman Cup revival in 2023? Well, sort of.

According to Stu Fraser at The Times, the ATP Cup is being supplanted by a mixed-gender event, the United Cup.

The planned change would see ATP and WTA players join forces in a similar team format consisting of men’s and women’s singles, plus mixed doubles. Unlike the prior beloved Hopman Cup, which served as a friendly exhibition for players to kickstart new seasons in Perth, ranking points would be offered to competitors at the United Cup.

Details are evolving, with date and venue locations, the number of participating nations and competition format yet to be announced.

This year, Canada triumphed over Spain to win the ATP Cup at Sydney’s Ken Rosewall Arena. This last time the Hopman Cup was staged in 2019, Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic led Switzerland past Team Germany’s Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev in the final by winning a decisive mixed doubles encounter.
