After Denis Shapovalov’s 6-2, 6-4 win over Thanasi Kokkinakis, Felix Auger-Aliassime’s 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex de Minaur in the second match of the Davis Cup final sealed the deal, clinching the Davis Cup title for Canada for the first time since the event began in 1900.

And Auger-Aliassime’s win was a double milestone: his 60th win of the year, one of only two men to reach that milestone in 2022.

MOST WINS FOR A MAN IN 2022 (tour-level):
61: Stefanos Tsitsipas
60: Felix Auger-Aliassime
57: Carlos Alcaraz
51: Andrey Rublev
51: Casper Ruud

Auger-Aliassime is the first Canadian man to record 60 tour-level wins in a single season in ATP history (since 1972). The previous record was held by Milos Raonic, who had 52 in 2016 (Greg Rusedski had 53 in 1997 and 1998, but was representing Great Britain then).

The last North American man to record 60 or more wins in a season was Andy Roddick in 2004 (he won 74 matches that year).

The 22-year-old from Montreal is also just the eighth active player to reach that milestone, and the first man born in 2000 or later to do it.
