Tsonga's coach Ascione looking at organizing clay-court circuit

Thierry Ascione, the coach of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and tournament organizer of Lyon, is aiming to start a clay-court circuit of events in the south of France, according to L'Equipe).

The clay season has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Ascione wants to hold some tournaments with French players and other players based around the region, such as Daniil Medvedev and Monte Carlo residents.

"We will try to organize atournament circuit to help those who need it most," Ascione said. "It will also help tourism, which has been very affected. The profits will be fully returned."

No timing or locations have been arranged, but players have reacted positively.

"I've spoken with some players like Jo, Lucas, Jeremy... they are all interested," Ascione said. "I'm going to speak to some other players. We will proceed hand in hand with the FFT with this project."

Much will depend on whether current restrictions, like a public gatherings ban and limitations on movement in the country are lifted. The FFT has already rescheduled the French Open to a late-September start.
