Venus Opelka Mixed US Open

Excitement continues to build for the reimagined 2025 US Open mixed doubles tournament, with 25 pairs now entered for the 16-team, two-day event where a $1 million payout to the champions is up for grabs.

Among the surprise names revealed Monday: Venus Wlliams.

The 45-year-old future Hall of Famer, playing her first event since the 2024 Miami Open this week in Washington D.C., signed up with Reilly Opelka. The two are among the newly-entered duos that need a wild card as of now. The same goes for engaged couple Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur, plus the tandem of Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev.

That’s not the case for Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune. The American-Danish team came in just behind Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro on the latest list where combined singles rankings determines the ordering—thanks largely in part to Anisimova’s maiden Grand Slam final appearance earlier this month.

The woman who double-bageled Anisimova for the Wimbledon crown, Iga Swiatek, boosted her and partner Casper Ruud like a champion. Ranked No. 9 initially, this pair has all but cemented a spot by vaulting to No. 3. Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev matched that six-place jump to No. 6 after the Swiss equaled her best major showing with a semifinal run in London.

Jessica Pegula and Tommy Paul tumbled six positions to No. 9. Zheng Qinwen and Jack Draper, along with Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas, were notably absent after being down on the first wave of entrants. It was later announced Monday that Zheng has withdrawn from the US Open, having recently undergone right elbow surgery.
