The Break: Venus Williams Appears In Paper Magazine

Venus Williams will return to the WTA tour in a few weeks, on grass at the Libema Open in s'Hertogenbosch.

The 42-year-old, who hasn't played since early January in Auckland, has taken a wild card into the Wimbledon tune-up tournament, perhaps with an eye on playing The Championships one more time. Williams has won Wimbledon five times in singles, the last coming 15 years ago.

Questions about Williams' tour status have been a constant for years, given the American's age, health and form. Since reaching two Grand Slam finals and another Slam semifinal in 2017, Venus hasn't gone past the third round of a major. Her lack of matches currently see her at No. 701 in the rankings, and she hasn't won back-to-back matches since reaching the quarterfinals of the Western & Southern Open in August 2019.

She will come into the Libema Open having won just one of her last eight WTA-level matches.
