Wimbledon Day 4 Previews: Djokovic, Dimitrov, Navarro look to avoid the upset bug

The 34-year-old Dimitrov recently completed the Retirement Slam: he's had to stop a match early in each of the last four majors. Nevertheless, he's managed to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon and the US Open quarterfinals in that span.

On Thursday, he faces a crafty Frenchman whose game is well-suited to the lawns of SW19—and is 2-0 against him, including a win at Wimbledon.

"Moutet is one of those guys whose game is perfect for this surface," said Jim Courier on Tennis Channel Live. "He doesn't have much power, but a lot of court craft."

"I love watching him play," said fellow Hall of Famer Lindsay Davenport—before offering up a heavy dose of saracasm. "I see a lot of myself in him."

Beginning with the recently completed Roland Garros, the 24-year-old Navarro will play a Grand Slam tournament a year after her best finish there. In Paris, where she reached the fourth round in 2024, she didn't win a single match. She's taken care of that at Wimbledon, but she still has quarterfinal points to defend.

"Last year, so fun to get to the top," said Davenport. "It's a lot harder, and it's not as enjoyable to try and stay there."

Ranked 46th, Kudermetova is one of the stronger second-round opponents Navarro could have drawn.

"Kudermetova is a tough out on this surface," said Davenport. "She hits the ball very hard and very flat."

Prakash Amritraj agreed, noting that the 28-year-old "can be a little front-footed when she plays—that's what makes her such a good threat."

Courier didn't think Alexandre Muller would win a set off Djokovic in the first round, so he's not conceding this contest to the Serbian outright.

"Djokovic wasn't exactly as crisp as he would have liked to be," he said. "Will he have the same type of response that Alcaraz has had?"

While Courier nonetheless felt Djokovic would win "going away," there are reasons to keep this match on your radar, as the panel explained.

"Game-style wise, he does have variety," said Amritraj of Evans, who has a 1-0 record over Djokovic (2021 Monte Carlo round of 16).

"The crowd's defintiely going to get into it," said Courier. "Novak likes to have the crowd on his side, but when they're against him, he plays even better."
